HOLY WEEK is the greatest week of the Church’s year, when we give ourselves to following Jesus, the Saviour of the World. All are invited to make a really special effort to gather with our parish community for the three great liturgies:

Mass of the Lord’s Supper – Thursday 7.00pm
Celebration of the Lord’s Passion – Friday 3.00pm
The Easter Vigil – Saturday 8.30pm

It is a wonderful spiritual experience to travel together as a Community through these sacred days of the Lord’s Passion, Death and Resurrection.

These three “Great Liturgies” will take place in the church of The Sacred Heart, North Walsham, and will truly be an expression of the whole parish community coming together in Prayer and Liturgy.

PALM SUNDAY

Today we commemorate the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. There are mixed emotions as we begin our Celebration with the joyful procession but then listen to the Passion of Jesus from Luke’s Gospel. The scene is now set for the coming week.

Mass times are as usual next weekend but bear in mind that Mass will be slightly longer than usual and weather permitting we will be invited to gather outside for the blessing of the Palms.

This will be followed by Confessions until 10.15am. Following the ancient tradition of the Church this will be the final “advertised” opportunity for Confession before Easter.

Children’s Service at 3.00pm

MASS OF THE LORD’S SUPPER at 7.00pm

(Student Cross Mass at St John of the Cross, Aylsham at 7.30pm)

Tonight is the beginning of the Paschal Triduum (Paschal means “Easter”; Triduum “three days”, and is counted from sunset this evening through until Easter Sunday evening). We are invited to enter Christ’s Passover. The washing of the feet reminds us that we are to serve one another. As we receive the Body and Blood of the Lord - the one who came to serve and give his life for the world – so we are invited to be the presence of Christ in the world today.
The holy oils blessed in our Cathedral last night, will be received during this Mass and will be used for the sacraments during this coming year: Baptism, Confirmation and Anointing of the sick.
As our Mass draws to a close we process to the Altar of Repose (weather permitting this will be in the parish hall) with the Blessed Sacrament. The hall will remain open for prayer until 10.15pm (Night Prayer at 10.00pm).

GOOD FRIDAY
(Today is a day of FASTING and ABSTINENCE)

Processions of Witness today:

AYLSHAM: Gather at Bure Valley Railway, Norwich Road at 9.30am.

HOVETON/WROXHAM: gather at St John’s church, Hoveton at 10.00am

NORTH WALSHAM: Gather at the Market Cross at 9.30am.

These are Ecumenical Events and it is good that we should take part in them and also give witness to those who live, work and shop in our town and village Centres on this Good Friday.

Children’s Service at 11.30am (North Walsham)

CELEBRATION OF THE LORD’S PASSION at 3.00pm
In this afternoon’s liturgy we celebrate the Redemption of the World by Jesus on the cross. It is a celebration of God’s love for ALL. The Liturgy brings into this present time and place Christ’s victory over death and sin.
Our Service is made up of: Scripture; Prayer for the World, Veneration of the cross, and the receiving of Holy Communion.
The collection this afternoon is for the Holy Land Shrines

Stations of the Cross at St Helen’s, Horning Road West, Hoveton at 7.00pm. Parishioners and friends welcome.

HOLY SATURDAY

Morning Prayer at 9.30am (and Reading of an ancient homily for Holy Saturday)

EASTER VIGIL

The EASTER VIGIL will begin at 8.30pm on Saturday evening. Every parishioner is encouraged to make this their Easter Mass (This Mass fulfils the Sunday obligation). The Vigil begins with the lighting of the Paschal Candle from the Easter fire. The Easter Song (Exsultet) is sung. Our “faith story” is told through the reading of Scripture. Then having blessed the Easter Water we receive a new member into the Church through Reception into Full Communion and the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist. We all renew our Baptismal Promises before sharing in the life of the Risen Lord by receiving Holy Communion. This is truly the night of all nights! This is the Mother of all Vigils!
You are welcome to refreshments in the Church after the Easter Vigil.
