A WARM WELCOME TO ANY VISITORS who may be with us this weekend, staying with family and friends or just here on holiday: we hope you have an enjoyable time in beautiful North Norfolk. You are welcome to stay for coffee after our weekend Masses and meet some of our parishioners.

CHILDREN’S LITURGY Please note that there are no Liturgy sessions for the children in our churches until September when they return to school.

IMPORTANT CHANGES TO MASS TIMES for the week starting Monday 11th August will be as follows/also listed on separate insert to keep to hand:

Monday 11th – No Mass       Tuesday 12th – 9.30am Mass North WalshamWednesday 13th – 9.30am HovetonThursday 14th – 9.30am Mass N Walsham Friday 15th Assumption of BVM (Holyday of Obligation) – Ayls 9.00am Mass; NW 10.30am Mass; Hoveton 6.00pm Mass.

THE BIBLE GROUP (NW) takes a holiday until Friday 12th September when they will meet again in the parish hall at 2.30pm.

ST BENET’S ABBEY ECUMENICAL SERVICE is to be held TODAY Sunday August 3rd 2014. It takes place in the open air on the Broads at 3.30pm. All are welcome to this rather beautiful service set on the historic site where once the Benedictine Abbey of St Benet’s stood. To get there, take the Ludham road from Wroxham, turn right just after “The Dog” public house at Johnson Street and follow the signs.

PARISH PICNIC is on Sunday 17th August in the grounds of the Sacred Heart, North Walsham following the morning Mass at 12.15pm and ends at 3.00pm. Bring your own picnic, rug etc plus, if possible, some food for sharing for the Food from “Around the World” Table. Please see separate insert for details.

OUR ANNUAL MASS IN THE GARDEN OF REMEMBRANCE  (North Walsham) takes place on Thursday 21st August at 6.00pm. Everyone is welcome but especially those who have their loved one’s ashes buried there. If it is wet, Mass will be held in the church. We will need help that evening with setting up and putting back of the chairs. If you can help please have a word with Antonia or ring the presbytery. Many thanks.

HARVEST FLOWER FESTIVAL at St Helen’s 3rd, 4th and 5th October. Calling all flower arrangers, please get in touch with Liz Smith at St Helen’s if you are interested in doing an arrangement for the flower festival.

ST HELEN’S HARVEST SUPPER is on Monday 6th October: tickets will be on sale during September from Doreen Crouch and Mary Brook.

YOUTH 2000 PRAYER FESTIVAL 21st – 25th August   Come and join the Diocesan Group going to the Youth 2000 Prayer Festival – “The Journey” at Walsingham. Joining a thousand other young people for talks, live music, prayer, sport and loads more. For those aged 16 to 30 years. “EVANGELII GADIUM” Previouslyordered copies have now arrived: please take your named copy, paying £3.71 to Patricia Newton (Hoveton) and to Antonia (NW) beforehand. Please, no money to be put in the wall slot.

“SWISHING PARTY” ! in aid of the roof repairs at St John of the Cross. A “Swishing Party” will take place on Wednesday 27th August at 7.00pm in the House of Hobbies shop at 24 Market Place, North Walsham (opp the Market Cross). Tickets £5 from Teresa Butler (01692 405007) All will be explained in the next week’s newsletter.

PARISH PHOTOGRAPHERS: The PPC would like to improve the photographic record of parish events. Any of your photographs which you think may enhance our records please send to John Bolger – bolger@waitrose.com  Do continue to look at your old photo albums and see what you can find with a “parish connection”.

“TERESA 500” Events organised by the Carmelite Forum of Britain & Ireland throughout 2014 – 2015 are celebrating 500 years since the birth of St Teresa of Avila and exploring the ongoing significance of her life and teachings. On Saturday 18th October ‘14 there will be a semi-dramatized presentation of her life and times at the Carmelite Monastery at Quidenham. The Family of Madeleine McGrory would like to express our thanks to Fr Michael and the parishioners of St John of the Cross for the support and prayers over the last year for Madeleine and especially for the help and comfort given at the Requiem Mass.

We pray for all those whose anniversaries occur at this time, including Richard Mark Furlong, Kathleen Harkin, Nora Nyland, June Marion Ennals, Ronald Walter Perkins, Christopher Tuohy, Jeanette Therese Shaw, Maureen Bree, Brenda Ivy O’Mara, Peter Carty, Audrey Christine Howard, Christina O’Flaherty and Betty Beardshaw.
