Newsletter 01.12.13.

29/11/2013 by Antonia

A WARM WELCOME to all our VISITORS. Do feel free to stay for coffee after Mass (Aylsham and North Walsham) and meet some of our parishioners. Our visitors may like to use one of the “one off” gift-aid envelopes for your collection, available at the back of the church. Many thanks.

TODAY  is the First Sunday of Advent when we start our journey preparing for the coming of the Lord.  Through Advent we will be praying the Angelus before the start of Mass – a beautiful prayer with a focus on the Incarnation.  (Our Sunday Readings are now taken from Year A – Readers please note).  If you were away last week then please pick up the Advent leaflet from the porch for details of Services in Advent and Christmas Mass times.

This afternoon at St John of the Cross, Aylsham, the annual Advent Service of Evening Prayer takes place at 4pm: an opportunity for the whole parish to come together at the start of our Advent Journey.  This beautiful Service has been greatly appreciated over the past few years.  Do offer lifts to those who may not otherwise be able to go.

“Walk with Me” – A Journey of Prayer for Advent & Christmastide 2013: copies of this booklet are available in the porch at the cost of £1.

MANGO NEWS (our parish Cambodia Newsletter) will be distributed as you leave Mass today.

SENIOR CITIZENS’ GROUP –  Meets Monday 2nd December: am. Computer Workshop; pm. A DVD – “The Nativity Story”.

JOURNEY INTO FAITH – How to become a Catholic or know more about the Catholic Faith: Wednesdays at 2.30pm in the Presbytery.

PARISH RECONCILIATION SERVICE takes place at North Walsham on this coming Saturday at 11.00am.  There will be a number of visiting priests available for confessions.  It is an excellent way of preparing for Christmas.  Perhaps you have never been to one of these Services before – then why not come along this Saturday.  There will be a similar Service at St Joseph’s catholic Church, Sheringham on the following Saturday (14th) at 11.00am.

PARISH CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS PARTY is on Sunday 22nd December at 4.00 – 6.00pm in the parish hall at North Walsham, following the Parish Carol Service (3pm).  Parents: Names of children should be in a.s.a.p. – LIST IN THE PORCH.

PARISH CATHOLIC DIARIES are available FREE at the back of the church.

FOR OUR YOUNG PEOPLE – a newsletter from the Diocesan Youth Service, looking back over the special events that took place during the past year and setting out a calendar of key events for the young in the coming year 2014.  Do pick up a copy.  We have plenty of copies so please pass one to any of your friends.

FINAL POSTING DATE for greetings to Cambodia is Wed 4th Dec. Address slips are at the back of all our churches.

“GIFTS MAKE A DIFFERENCE” (GMD)  Remember, this scheme is ongoing; items are still needed for all AWW charities including Cambodia: especially pencils, biros, rulers, erasers, toothbrushes.  Lists & GMD boxes in church porches. Grateful thanks for items so far.
