Dear Friends,

Today’s Gospel tells the story of another tax-collector. Zachaeus opens his house and his heart to Jesus and this encounter is a turning point in his life.

The Journey in Faith course begins today at 5 pm in the presbytery. It is for those who wish to explore the teaching of the Catholic Church as well as anyone who would like to have a ‘refresher’ course.

We are also taking names of children for First Holy Communion preparation classes. Please take a form, bring it back or send it to me.

This coming year, beginning with Advent, the Church is holding a Year of the Word. Throughout the year we will be holding events that focus on the Bible. I would like to set up a working group to organise these. Please let me know if you are interested.

Father James

Mass at St Helen’s next Wednesday (6th) will be a special Memorial Mass for those whose ashes are interred in the church garden, and for all those parishioners who have died.

It’s time to return your Missio Collection Boxes: please hand them over to Peter Adamson (Ayls); Maureen (Hov) and Sue Perrott (N.W) over the next two or three weeks. Thank you.

Reverse Advent Calendar – our parish will take part in the ‘Reverse Advent Calendar’ again this November. There are flyers at the back of each church with suggestions for items that are needed in the boxes over the next 25 days. Fill your own box or bag at home or bring items to church putting them in the Food Bank boxes. Filled boxes need to be returned to your church at the latest by weekend of 1st December so that the Food Banks can distribute the food in time for Christmas.

Support Cambodia’s Annual Appeal for the Rice Soup, Baby Milk & Maternal Health Programmes in Svay Sisophon takes place throughout this month with a speaker and retiring collection at all Masses on 16th/17th November. Donations may also be made in cash, by cheque, online or bank transfer. Details at www.supportcambodia.org.uk>DONATE or from Bob Maidment on 01263 577784

CAFOD Faith in Action Day – “Love is Civic and Political”. A day to explore the links between faith and politics, to reflect on scripture and Church teaching and be inspired by others and CAFOD’s campaigning and work overseas. Saturday 16th November, 10am – to 4pm. At Clare Priory, Clare, Sudbury, CO10 8NX. Soup & roll lunch provided. If you wish to attend sign up via: cafod.org.uk/Campaign/Campaign-events

May they rest in peace.
