FROM THE PARISH PRIEST Peñafrancia Mass: On the 20th of September we helped our Jubilee Mass, celebrated by Bishop Peter, at St Helen’s. It was an enjoyable, lively and extremely colourful Mass with a tremendous witness to our neighbours with over 700 people in attendance and joining in with the procession through the streets of Wroxham. The celebration was hosted our Filipino community who celebrate Mass once a month at St Helen’s and have also honoured us by placing a permanent shrine to Our Lady of Peñafrancia in the transept of the church. In their usual generous manner, we were all fed a delicious meal after the Mass and there was much joy and happiness as we shared our lunch. The Filipino community also held a collection and donated over £700 to our parish funds. Thank you for a day well celebrated. The Sacraments of the Church: First Holy Communion: If you have a child who is eligible for FHC classes and you would like to enrol them for classes then please let me know (via email) as soon as possible. I will need to pass your details to our catechists so that they can make contact with you, so please indicate in your email that I have your permission to do so. Confirmation: The same as above – please let me know so I can inform the catechists. Catholicism Today: I will be starting the RCIA programme for adult instruction on Friday the 16th of October. These classes are for anyone who wishes to become a catholic or for people who are already catholic but wish to find out more about their faith or would like a refresher on matters of faith. I anticipate having our first meeting at 6pm at the presbytery and then, depending on numbers, find a time and venue that suits the majority of people who wish to attend to minimise the number of journeys on the cold winter’s nights. I would hope to only host ONE series of classes in the parish. These classes are quite informal with plenty of time for discussion and questions throughout – but they are structured and run along a curriculum so that our time is fruitful and worthwhile. Please register your interest by sending me an email over the next few weeks. There is no charge for the course, however, I will encourage attendees to purchase one or two books that will help them in terms of reference and teaching. | |
