“Christianity without discipleship is always Christianity without Christ.”
The 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time reminds us that God works through simple things and humble people. In one Gospel, Jesus is rejected in His hometown because people think they know Him too well. In another year, He sends out His followers with little to carry, asking them to trust God. These stories show that faith means letting go of pride and trusting God’s plan.
Paul writes about his weakness and how God’s power works best when we are weak. This teaches us that we don’t need to be strong or perfect to serve God. The 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time invites us to be open, humble, and ready to share God’s message, even when it’s hard.

Next weekend is Sea Sunday; there will be a Second Collection for Stella Maris. Sea Sunday when the Church remembers all those who live and work at sea. Seafarers are commonly recruited from poorer countries where wages are lower; they work in difficult and often dangerous conditions, suffering from loneliness, spiritual deprivation and even exploitation as they transport the goods we use and consume every day. Stella Maris (formerly known as the Apostleship of the Sea) is the Catholic Church’s maritime agency and it reaches out to seafarers who visit our ports each year, offering pastoral and practical support and care. Sea Sunday is a chance to help make a real difference in the lives of seafarers. ‘Gift-aid’ envelopes are available in the porch.
