“He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.”
The 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time year C reminds us that following Jesus is not always easy. He asks for more than quick prayers or kind words. He calls us to put him first, even before family or friends. That can be hard to bear. But Jesus wants us to know what we are saying yes to. He wants us to think carefully and choose with open eyes. The readings challenge us to choose Jesus above everything else and to rely on God for understanding.
