Newsletter 09.10.16.

Dear Friends,

You may remember that before the summer holidays parishioners from all three of our churches met to reflect on Pope Francis’ encyclical ‘Laudato Si’. Central to his message is how we see our role in the world that conforms with the vision of St Francis. I shall explain more at the Masses this weekend and suggest how we, as a parish, can live simply, sustainably and in solidarity with the poor.

We celebrate Harvest Thanksgiving this weekend. Parishioners at Aylsham and North Walsham are invited to bring items of fruit and vegetables, etc both to donate in the Offertory Procession and decorate the sanctuary. No plastic bags, please! Items will be sold after Mass and the proceeds will go to CAFOD.

Before I came to the parish I had had no experience of prison ministry. Now I celebrate Mass once a month at HMP Bure. Today we mark Prisoners’ Sunday by directing our thoughts and prayers to prisoners, their families and their children.

First Holy Communion. We are planning a meeting next month to begin preparing our children for First Holy Communion. Please let me know if your child will be taking part in the programme – by the end of this month, if possible.

Father James

Next Sunday (16th) at the Sacred Heart at 3pm there will be Exposition, Meditation on the Joyful Mysteries and Benediction. This is for the whole parish.

Thank you to all who attended the “Ancestors” (Holy Souls) Mass last weekend, especially to the young people who led the Offertory with such dignity, to readers John and Pippa and all those who helped serve or prepare – Becky, Carol, Clare, Bob, Jan, Ginny and Aideen. A beautiful and unusual way to remember our departed loved ones: see pictures on “Our Parish Twinning” board.

Please bring in your Missio Red APF boxes over the next few weeks.

The Senior Citizens’ Group (NW) meets Monday 10th October. Computer Workshop, or crafts, coffee and chat followed by lunch. The Victorian Conjuror’s visit is re-scheduled for 21st November as Ann Bailey’s funeral takes place that afternoon (10th) at 2pm.
On Monday 17th October there will be a Healing Mass with the Anointing of the Sick at 12noon followed by a shared lunch. All are welcome from the three churches within our parish.

The Bible Group meets on Friday 14th at 2.30pm – parish hall.

Two messages from Support Cambodia:

Race Night is next Saturday (15th) at 7pm in the Sacred Heart Parish Hall. It’s your last chance today to sponsor a horse or jockey. A few tickets (£1) are still available ring 01263 577784.

Thank you very much to all those who responded to our request for Bonne Maman jam jars (which we convert into home collecting jars). Please, no more jars for now as we have enough! So there are now plenty of “Coins for Cambodia” jars available for those who would like one at home for loose change. So far the scheme has brought in over £300 towards a borewell for the new student hostel in Pailin. Details are on the boards in all three churches or call 01263 577784.

Vacancy for Head teacher at The Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School, Peterborough; required September 2017. For more details please see the Diocesan Website: www.rcdea.org.uk It is advisable to check the Diocesan Website regularly as vacancies are being advertised all the time. Pl see advertisement on the notice board.

We pray for John Barton, Erwin Loska and Ann Bailey who died recently and those whose anniversaries occur during this week including: Mary Merrill, Thomas Purdy, Wladislaw (Val) Tanistra, Catherine (Kay) Higgs, Arthur Pitman and David Pugh.
May they rest in peace.
