Dear Friends,

Today’s Gospel is an account of the temptation of Jesus. He is offered power and success but on the devil’s terms. We have a chance to begin Lent reflecting on sin and temptation, seeing Lent as a desert time when we deal with them in our personal lives.

More copies of our Lent book ‘The Shattering of Loneliness’ will be available costing a modest £5.

God bless

Father James

Lenten Alms in all our three communities are for the Church in Need.

On Monday 11th March everyone in the parish is invited to ’A Day of Reflection’ led by Fr James at North Walsham, starting at 11am. Mass will be at 12noon followed by lunch (please bring finger food for sharing). Father will continue with the reflection at 2pm.

(Fr. James’ Lenten Course continues on Saturday mornings in the parish hall after the 9.30am Mass: on 23rd March and 6th April).

CAFOD’s Family Fast Day next Friday is an opportunity to support our brothers & sisters around the world. Drought, floods and storms are having a devasting impact on families in Bangladesh who make their living from fishing: the drought last year killed all the fish. With our help CAFOD can provide rice seeds that grow in salty water, ducks that are hardy to local diseases, build ponds for families to breed fish. On Friday, eat a simple meal in solidarity and give what you save to help people in Bangladesh.

Sign CAFOD’s online Petition to the Prime Minister for urgent climate change action to limit global temperature rise to 1.5C. Go to cafod.org.uk and choose climate under the heading of Campaign.

This afternoon (Sunday) from 2pm till 4pm Kerry & Lauren invite 8-14 yr olds and their parents to a Summer Camp “Taster” Day!

Next Saturday 16th March – Support Cambodia’s “Soups, Slides & Crafts’ lunch at the parish hall. Entry to the Crafts and the Slide show is free but the soup lunch will only be available to ticket holders.

Lenten Lunches (NW) will be held at different venues 12.30pm on Thursdays. This week (14th) at St Nicholas Rooms: the speaker: Rev Paul Cubitt .Simple lunch, £4 – goes towards Christian Aid. See poster.

On Monday 18th March: Senior Citizens’ Group (NW) – Mystery History Tour with well-known historian Neil Storey and Wright’s Coaches. The coach departs from the Sacred Heart at 10am; returns approx. 3.30/3.45pm. Tickets still available £10. If interested contact Teresa on 01692 405007 or 07901 830327 by Tuesday 12th March.

As a LiveSimply Project for Lent – Welcome Rucksack Project. St John’s Cathedral LiveSimply Group have been providing a rucksack filled with useful items for newly arrived refugee/asylum seeking families coming to Norwich and they would be grateful for any help we could give by collecting specific items from lists available in each church. Please take a list and bring any donations to our churches during Lent and place them in the boxes provided.

World Day of Prayer. A big thank you to all who attended this year’s service at our church, to all who participated in the service and those who provided refreshments afterwards, making it such a success.

We pray for all our sick parishioners: Mary Johnson, Joe Seely, Maria Wilby, Frances Palman, Thomasina Hopkins, Matt Butler, Peter Lloyd and John Gowing.

We pray for all those whose anniversaries occur at this time including: Agatha Semak, Muriel Portallion, John Barry, John Price, William Lee, Cynthia Shearing, Michael Sherry, Reginald Broad and Robert Watson.

May they rest in peace.
