NEWSLETTER 09.04.23

08/04/2023 by John

Dear Parishioners,

Christ is Risen!  Alleluia!  Alleluia!  Happy Easter!

We are Easter people and Alleluia is our song!

What a great privilege for me to celebrate my first Easter with you.  I am so blessed by your presence and your lives.  May you be filled with the love, hope, joy and peace of the Risen Lord this Easter and every day.  May Alleluia be our song all the days of our New Lives in Christ to the glory of the Father!

I thank you for your presence and prayers as we celebrate this special feast.  I especially extend a warm welcome to anyone who is visiting us from other places or faith background.

At the Easter Vigil, we warmly welcome Michael Baker and Terence Fletcher, new Catholics into our parish family.  We congratulate Isabella Rushen on receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation on Easter Sunday.

My friends, so often “thank you” hardly seems to suffice for what one has received, especially when those who so freely give are not looking for thanks but would prefer to remain hidden.  I would however, on behalf of all parishioners, like to say thank you to the many hands that helped to make this Holy Week prayerful and celebratory.  I would like to thank the liturgical ministries, the Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Altar Servers, Stewards, Sacristans, Flower arrangers, Catechist, Committee members and Choirs who so faithfully and respectfully shared with us their gifts and talents.  It is my sincere hope and prayer, that you may all have a peaceful Easter Season, full of life and joy.

The Collection today, Easter Sunday, (including from the Easter Vigil yesterday, Saturday evening) is our personal gift to Fr Peter. Please keep all general contributions for the parish until the following week.

House Mass at the home of Frances Hall, Tuesday 11th April at 3pm.  3 St John’s Gardens, Stalham, NR129DB.

Diocesan Pilgrimage to Walsingham is on Bank Holiday Monday 1st May.  A coach will pick up parishioners from Hoveton at 9.30am, from North Walsham at 9.50am and from Aylsham at 10.15am, to arrive at the Shrine at 11.15am.  Please sign your names to the list in church porches as we need to know numbers for size of coach.  Cost – £6 to be collected on the coach.  To bring a packed lunch.

Forum meeting takes place at St Helen’s church after Mass on Saturday 15th April.

Exciting outing for Faithful Flames children – Let’s go bowling! On Sunday 7th May the children are invited to go, as a group, bowling at Jr’s North Walsham (NR28 0JQ) at 12.45pm.  It is free; only children may bowl, adults must remain with children.  Food and drink to be purchased separately.  Please contact Kerry on 07504048352 to book or speak to her on Sundays during Faithful Flames.

Interested in working  with children and young people? Leaving school or university in the summer and deciding what to do next? In between jobs, or would like to do something ’different’?  The Diocesan Youth Service is looking for people aged 18-35 to join the Ignite Team, sharing the Gospel Message with young people. These are full-time positions initially for either 12 months (Sept. intake) or 6 months (January intake), with training, food, accommodation and a monthly allowance provided. For more information see www.rcdea.org.uk/youth

Pat Durrant, former sacristan at St John of the Cross, has died.  Please pray for the repose of her soul, for her husband Chris and for the family.

We pray for our sick parishioners: Matt Butler, Frances Palman, Mary Bell, Mary Carr, Paul Watson, Cyril Shenton,  Patricia Newton, Pat Durrant, Celia Cooper, Michael Haughton, Marie Barton, Gerry Francis, Robert Buhagiar and Alf and Margaret Larkins.

We pray for those whose anniversaries occur this week: Franciszek (Frank) Dominikowski, Monica Furlong,  Eileen Codd, Bernard Shearing, Catherine Whitwell, Betty Paul and Joseph Clark.

May they rest in peace.
