2nd Sunday of Easter.
‘We have seen the Lord’ are the joyful words of the disciples to Thomas. He does not share their enthusiasm and demands evidence so that he too can see. Remember that for St John to ‘see’ is synonymous with ‘believing’. Thomas separates the two: ‘unless I see…I refuse to believe’. The Lord understands this. A week later he takes him at his word. He allows Thomas to touch him and tells him to put aside his doubts and embark on the adventure of faith. How much more the Lord understands our hesitations and doubts – we who have not seen like Thomas and the other disciples and yet believe.
