We welcome back Fr James after his holiday and trust he has had that well-earned rest.

In Fr James’ absence (at the time of printing this bulletin) Deacon Ron writes to remind us of God’s continuing love as shown in this Sunday’s Gospel:

“A mother waiting for her child to return from school keeps looking from behind the curtain, then, she sees her coming around the corner. She runs down the path and hoists her up in her arms with joy. Same story really…….God waits, but the first sign of our movement and he is out for us. The Prodigal Son is our story, a real story of continuous conversion. Let’s keep moving to God’s loving arms!”

Deacon Ron

Today (Sunday) is Education Day and there will be a retiring collection for the Catholic Education Service.

Just to let everyone know, the presbytery is back online, for emails to Fr James and to the office – sacredheart@computer-assist.net and the usual information on the parish website – see front page.

Collection for Welcome Centre for Refugees: Rob and Clare thank everyone for their amazing generosity following Rob’s appeal on behalf of Fr John Luke Gregory’s Refugee Welcome Centre on Kos and Rhodes. The magnificent sum of £985 and 161 euros was collected, (and more is still coming in). The pilgrimage organisers have informed Fr Luke, who is delighted and will ensure that we meet up either on Kos or Rhodes on 1st October to hand over the money.

A Flower Festival & Art Exhibition takes place on Friday 9th until Monday 12th September of St George’s Church, Sprowston. The diocese celebrates its 40 years of existence. Flower arrangers from the diocese will represent their different parishes and this will include the Sacred Heart Church. Refreshments will be available.

Shoeboxes (Samaritan’s Purse), given to children from Third World countries at Christmas. Our boxes will be collected if the number exceeds 50: if less, someone will have to take them to the nearest Drop Off Point between 1st and 18th November. May I please know if you are intending to make up a box(es) and thanks to those who have already made contact. Please email Antonia – (on home email) antonia-nw@outlook.com or ring 01692 406452; or, alternatively now, the office email sacredheart@computer-assist.net

Senior Citizens’ Group at NW meets on Monday 12th September. AM Computer Workshop for some and crafts, coffee and chat for others. After lunch (to bring your own) John Bolger will talk and discuss his role as Parish Pastoral Assistant. Newcomers are always most welcome, meeting our friendly group and seeing some of their activities. Contact Teresa on 01692 405007.

Cambodia-Style Mass to celebrate the Feast of Ancestors (Holy Souls) at the Sacred Heart Parish Hall on Friday 30th September at 7pm. There will be a flier about this given out with next week’s newsletter.

Support Cambodia Race Night is on Saturday 15th October at 7pm in the Sacred Heart Parish Hall. Tickets (£1), horses and jockeys will be on sale after Mass from next weekend. Details at www.supportcambodia.org.uk

Stalham Area House Mass: there will be a Mass on Friday 16th September at St Mary’s Church, Stalham at 7pm.

Next Sunday is Home Mission Day and there will be a retiring collection.

We pray also for those whose anniversaries occur during this week including: Peter Bonsall and Mary Mousley. May they rest in peace.
