Dear Friends,

Today we celebrate one of the most solemn feasts of Our Lady. The central mystery of her life is her divine motherhood which we celebrate at Christmas. The Assumption completes God’s work in her since it was not fitting that the flesh that had given life to God himself should ever undergo corruption. The Assumption is God’s crowning of his work as Mary ends her earthly life and enters eternity. This feast also reminds us that where she has gone we too will follow when our earthly life is over.

Father James

Safeguarding in the Parish. It is vitally important that every parish has up-to-date information regarding those who, through their work in the parish, have contact with children or vulnerable adults. This applies particularly to ministers of the Eucharist and those involved in children’s liturgy or sacramental preparation. New volunteers will need a DBS check and existing checks will need to be updated. Charlotte Collison is the parish safeguarding rep and she can arrange for these checks to be done. You can contact her by email at: safeguardingnorthwalsham@gmail.com

Our Annual Memorial Garden Mass in the Sacred Heart Church grounds will take place this coming Tuesday, 16th August at 6pm. Everyone is welcome but especially those who have their loved ones’ ashes buried there. If you are able to help that evening with setting up the Memorial Garden, please ring Antonia on 01692 406452.

The Sponsored Bike Ride & Walk (Norfolk Churches Trust) will be on Saturday 10th September 2016 – 9am to 5pm. Get your Sponsor/Donation form from the church nearer the date.

Churches Together SAFARI SUPPER is on Saturday 10th September: Adult ticket £7.50; under 12s £5.00. Proceeds to Age Concern (N.W. Dementia Friendly town).

Please note: the Mass on Tuesday at 9.30am (NW) is transferred to the 6pm Mass in the Memorial Garden that evening.

Support Cambodia: the summer issue of the charity’s newsletter, Mango News, is now available. If you haven’t received your e-copy, please contact Katie at katbob@live.co.uk   Please note: Mango News will no longer be available on the parish website but can be accessed via Facebook and on the Support Cambodia website at www.supportcambodia.org.uk

Following on from the recently held Laudato Sii talks the PPC would like to encourage everyone in the parish to become more involved with CAFOD’s Live Simply Campaign and to work towards gaining a Live Simply Award. For details go to cafod.org.uk and follow the Campaigns drop down menu. We’d like to recruit volunteers for a small working party to take this forward. If you are interested in joining this working party please speak to Fr James or Rob Hardie.

Young Catholic Adult Weekend @ Douai Abbey 28th – 30th October 2016. Are you 18-40, do you want to deepen your knowledge of the Catholic faith, learn its devotions and meet like minded people? You’ll be able to hear catechetical talks, learn how to sing Gregorian Chant, say the Rosary, and have fun. Book soon, places limited!
