NEWSLETTER 14.09.25

12/09/2025 by John

“Most Christians are being crucified on a cross between two thieves: yesterday’s regret and tomorrow’s worries.”

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross.  There are two distinct ways in which we can view this triumph or this victory.  One way refers to what Christ has done; the other refers to what we are called to do.

We celebrate this feast of the Exaltation of the Cross for two reasons: (1) to understand the history of the discovery and recovery of the True Cross and (2) to appreciate better the importance of the symbol and reality of Christ’s sacrificial love, namely, the cross in the daily life of every Christian.

Fr. Peter

Let us accord our Bishop Peter a warm welcome as he visits our Parish to Celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation on Thursday, 25th September at 7.00pm at the Sacred Heart Church.  After the Mass there will be light refreshments in the hall giving us, hopefully, an opportunity to meet and talk to the Bishop.

RCIA – Journey in Faith meetings are starting again this Autumn in September for those who are thinking about becoming a Catholic or who would just like to know more about the Catholic Faith. If you would like to join the group please speak to Fr Peter.

Sacred Heart SVP is holding a bake sale today, Sunday, after the Mass both at Aylsham and North Walsham.  Donations of your baked creations would be gratefully appreciated.  All proceeds go to the parish SVP funds.

The next SVP meeting will be held on Tuesday 16th September at 7pm at the presbytery.  Anyone interested in joining the group is welcome to attend.  Alternatively, to learn more about our work or to request support please contact Maria or Mary on 07746 007508 or svpsacredheartnw@gmail.com

The programme for the day continues until 4pm. Pl bring food for lunch: tea/coffee will be provided.

Looking ahead.  A fun day for the family and an amusing time for the rest of us!  A BEETLE DRIVE  will be held at our parish hall at the Sacred Heart on Saturday 25th October, from 2-4pm. Accompanied Children – FREE.  Adults – £5.  Proceeds will go to our church funds. Do please sign the sheet in the church porch.

A delightful ‘Cream tea with Prosecco’ afternoon was spent in the picturesque grounds of Judi’s home in Oulton, near Blickling, where we each enjoyed a very generous cream tea and helped to raise funds in order to aid church renovation expenses at St John of the Cross. Our grateful thanks go to Judi for making this lovely occasion possible.

We pray for our sick parishioners: Matt Butler, Frances Palman, Mary Bell, Celia Cooper, Margaret Larkins,  Maria Halsey, Joan Macnamara, Richard Skelton, Teresa Fitzmaurice, Joan Gale, Bernadette Saunders, Doreen Rockey & daughter Sandra, Pam Thornton, Mary Long, Malcolm Akers, Frances Mack, Tony & Amy Heywood &Peter, and Cathie Dickson.

We pray for those whose anniversaries occur this week: Margaret Griffith, John Barton, Ann Bailey and Frances Ablitt.

May they rest in peace.
