Dear all,
The Masses for this week are a little bit scattered, so please check the newsletter before leaving your homes:
On Tuesday, 17th March – I have a meeting that I arranged before moving to North Walsham which I need to attend (this should be the last ‘clash’ that has been affected by my moving). Please remember, though, that there will be the Station Mass at the cathedral in the evening at 7pm. Do come along and celebrate Mass with Bishop Peter and the clergy of the deanery.
On Friday, 20th March – there will be no Mass at St John of the Cross Aylsham as I have to attend the funeral Mass for Mgr Peter Leeming at 10:00 at the cathedral. The bishop has asked that all clergy attend the Mass of deceased clergy and so I need to be there instead of at Aylsham. Please do pray for the repose of the soul of Mgr Leeming.
On the 31st of March, a Tuesday, there will be the Chrism Mass celebrated at the cathedral at 11.30, again with Bishop Peter and all of the clergy from around the diocese. This is the Mass when the bishop blesses and consecrates all of the oils for the diocese for their sacramental use for the year ahead. If you have never been to a Chrism Mass, I can highly recommend attending and being part of the diocese’s celebrations for Easter. There will be a coach leaving from all three churches on the morning – please do sign up on the form at the back of the church.
Father Alan.
Chrism Mass at the Cathedral of St John the Baptist on Tuesday 31st March at 11.30am. We hope to run a coach, picking up parishioners from our three churches. If you would like to attend this very beautiful Mass please sign the list at the back of the church.
Faithful Flames – a reminder to parents, especially if attending Mass at the Sacred Heart, that there is a children’s liturgy group, held in the parish hall on Sundays. It runs between 10.30 and 11.30am when the group joins the congregation in church for the Eucharist. For more information please speak to Kerry Barrett at Faithful.flames2025@gmail.com
Exercise Class Possibly unknown to most of our parishioners, the church has set up an exercise class, at a level most suitable for the ‘senior citizen’ and this takes place in the parish hall on Mondays at 10.30am. After an hour’s light ‘work out’ there is always time for some refreshment and a chat. The membership is not confined to our own parishioners giving us another occasion to welcome local people to our church. Do come along if you need some exercise and see how you find it!
Mass Intention envelopes are now available again in our church narthexes.
We pray for our sick parishioners: Matt Butler, Frances Palman, Mary Bell, Celia Cooper, Margaret Larkins, Maria Halsey, Joan Macnamara, Richard Skelton, Teresa Fitzmaurice, Bernadette Saunders, Doreen Rockey & daughter Sandra, Pam Thornton, Mary Long, Malcolm Akers, Frances Mack, Amy Heywood & Peter, Cathie Dickson, Carolyn Rayner & her mother Mary Rayner, and Alan Ganney.
Tom and Anne Binns, from St Helens, sadly died last month, within six days of each other. The Mass on Wednesday 18th March at St Helen’s at 9.30am will be said for them.
We pray for those whose anniversaries occur this week: Michael Sherry, Reginald Broad, Robert Leo Davis, Kathleen (Kay) Pearce, Henry (Dukie) Leeland and Peter Carapata.
May they rest in peace.
