Dear Friends,

In today’s Gospel St Luke addresses the tensions in the early Church. Some in the brotherhood had problems mixing with converts with a pagan background and did not accept them as true Christians. Luke is saying that any kind of exclusion or intolerance is not in line with gospel teaching.

Each year the Church in England and Wales celebrates Home Mission Sunday. It is an opportunity to inspire us all to share the Good News we have received. This year, on the 15th September we are encouraged to take to heart the invitation to ‘Rejoice with me’. We rejoice in the gift of faith that we have received. We are also encouraged to share that gift with others.

We welcome Father Gavin Small who is with us for his annual stay in the parish. He will be here for four weeks which allows me to go away for a (late) summer break.

Father James

Today there will be a retiring collection for the Home Missions after each of the Sunday Masses.

Also today, Sunday, in Hoveton at St Helen’s Church there is the annual Fluvial Procession, in honour of Our Lady of Penafrancia, Patroness of the Bicol Region in the Philippines. At 1.00 pm there will be a procession through the village to St Helen’s Church and this will be followed by a Festival Mass and feast; later there will be entertainment in the church grounds, the day’s events will ending at 4.30 pm.

Copies of the particular issues discussed at the Sacred Heart’s Forum Meeting, held on Sunday 18th August, are now available in the porch.

Work on the roof of Sacred Heart church will begin on 1st October and last for about three weeks.

We are still awaiting your nominations for new PPC representatives, especially from St Helen’s and the Sacred Heart. It is important that we have your elected members (three from each of our three communities) to represent their particular needs within the parish. Nomination forms are available in our churches and need to be returned please by the end of this month.

Calais Refuge Convoy – Rob, Clare and Naomi are planning to join the next CamCRAG Convoy to Calais over the weekend of the 21st September. If anyone has any clothes, particularly waterproof clothing, suitable for very slim men or women that they would like to donate we will be happy to take them over to Calais with us. Old mobile phones, sleeping bags and small tents are also very much in demand; you may like to donate to the Calais Refuge Kitchen who continue to feed at least 1000 refugees every day. Please ring either Clare (01603 897609 or Naomi (01263 834838 for further details.

Regrettably owing to unavoidable circumstances the planned Harvest Meal for 6th October at St Helen’s has been cancelled.

Support Cambodia’s annual Race Night is at 7pm on Saturday 12th October in the Parish Hall. Tickets (£1) and sponsorship for horses/jockeys will be available after weekend Masses. For more information see posters in the porch and visit www.supportcambodia.org.uk or call Katie on 01263 577784.

A Catholic family is looking for a 3-bedroom property to rent in the Aylsham/Corpusty area. Contact Beth Dvelys on 07539855725 or at: elisabethjensen84@hotmail.com
