NEWSLETTER 16.11.25

14/11/2025 by John

“Do not wait for the last judgement. It takes place every day.”

The readings for the 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time focus on the themes of judgment and the end of the world. In the first reading from Malachi, we are reminded of the day of reckoning when the arrogant and evildoers will face consequences, while those who honour God will experience healing and righteousness. In the second reading, Paul emphasizes the importance of hard work and responsibility, urging the community to avoid idleness.  Finally, in the Gospel of Luke, Jesus predicts the destruction of the temple and warns of future trials yet assures His followers of divine wisdom and protection during these times.

Fr. Peter

This Sunday is  World Day of the Poor.

Next Sunday is the Feast of Christ the King, celebrated as Youth Day. There will be a Second Collection next weekend for the Diocesan Youth Service.

The CHRISTMAS FAYRE – Saturday 29th November, 9am – 1pm.  Let’s make it a ‘bumper’ event!  A morning when we, as a parish, can get together, enjoy the company and MOST OF ALL!! raise some money for our ailing three churches. All three are badly in need of serious renovation.
What you can do to help:
Pick up a poster from church to put in your window, or in a local shop or on a notice board or public building in the coming days. We need:
Volunteers – people who can be on hand to give help where needed & generally be welcoming to visitors.  There will be 12 stalls so it will be busy.
Raffle prizes
Bottles – not just of wine but of any kind eg. bath essence, shampoo etc.
Sweets, Cakes/cookies   (delivered near to the time). Important point:  ingredients must be listed, please.

Advent Retreat Day.  The parish is organising an Advent Retreat Day on Saturday 13th December in the parish hall from 9.30am to 4.00pm.  Fr Alvan Ibeh SMMM will be the speaker.

House Mass   On Tuesday 18th November at 3.00pm there will be a House Mass at the home of Ken and Cathy Watkins: 9 Wilson Road, Stalham, NR12 9FL.

A Second Collection Appeal will be made at all parish Masses next week, 22nd/23rd November for donations to the Sacred Heart SVP Conference.  The St Vincent de Paul Society group will report on their work over the past 12 months with the homeless, the lonely and deprived. The appeal will be not only for donations this Christmas time and for the coming weeks but we seek ongoing support in the form of regular benefactors and most of all new members to volunteer and come forward to help with the growing need to respond to the poor within our very parish boundary.

Pastoral Work Volunteers Needed. The chaplaincy at HMP Bure are looking for volunteer/s to assist in the pastoral care of Catholic prisoners but also to assist in the pastoral care of inmates of other faiths and none. If anyone would be interested in finding out more about this role, which would involve a few hours one Saturday or Monday a month, please contact the Chaplaincy at HMP Bure on 01603-326180.  Alternatively, please contact via email: simeonakindele@justice.gov.uk or Gerard.mildinhall@justice.gov.uk.

Please give prayerful thought to the following: we need nominations for some new Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) representatives from each of our churches.  Nomination forms are available at the back of our churches, for you to put forward, with their consent, the name of a parishioner you think suitable to help with the running of parish events etc. under the guidance of Father Peter, our parish priest. After completion, the forms should be passed to Fr Peter.  Further information about the role of a representative can be obtained from one of the current reps or from Father Peter.

CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS PARTY Sat. 20th Dec. 2-5pm in the hall. To secure your child’s place you MUST SIGN UP BY SUNDAY 23RD NOVEMBER. Further information please email: faithful.flames2025@gmail.com  Also sign up using QT code on any of the ‘Children’s Christmas Party’ posters.
