FROM THE PARISH PRIEST Praying for the Holy Father: Last Sunday, the world was taken by surprise when The Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, announced that he was to undergo surgery this week for a ‘small nodule’ that his medical team had discovered in one of his lungs. As Catholics this news is really one of great concern as our love and respect for the Holy Father is almost instinctive. As is normal, we were not given too much information as the Holy Father does deserve a degree of privacy when it comes to personal and medical procedures. We are all asked to pray for Pope Leo at this time and until he is given the all clear. I was fortunate in that we were able to offer Mass for him at Sacred Heart on Tuesday so that at least one Mass has been celebrated for him. It is, however, important that we continue our prayers on a daily basis and pray the rosary for his intentions before Mass. Extraordinary Ministers’ Training and Info Day: There will be a training day for all extraordinary ministers (Communion Ministers) of the Eucharist. The day will be held at Sacred Heart, begin at 10:30 for coffee and registration. First session at 10:45, Adoration and Benediction at 12:00 followed by lunch – with the final session at 1:30 pm to finish at approximately 2:30pm. All those attending will then be commissioned as ministers later this year. Please bring a packed lunch – tea and coffee will be provided. I look forward to a prayerful and enjoyable day. Parish Fish, Chips and Quiz: Our social committee has gone to a lot of effort to arrange an evening of fun and food on Saturday the 31st of October at 6:30pm. Please do consider coming to this event to be part of your parish community; the evening promises to be a fun evening with great company and delicious food. There is an active and keen body of people who work quietly in the background to promote the social cohesion of the parish. Please support them and the parish – bring your family and friends. | |
