Dear Friends,

This weekend and next the readings remind us that the world is passing away; it must pass away. False securities and shallow guarantees will not sustain us in times of strife and testing. God alone must be our hope. God’s ways must be our ways, so that when our securities and misplaced confidences fail us we can turn our eyes to God’s saving light.

Today the Journey in Faith course continues in the presbytery at 5 pm.

All parishioners who have contact with children or vulnerable adults need to have a DBS disclosure. Most already have one but may need to have it renewed – it last for 3 years only. If this is the case you will be contacted by one of the parish’s safeguarding officers: Fran Ludden(Aylsham), Gerry Mildinhall (N.Walsham) or Hilary Bolger (Hoveton).

 Father James

Next Sunday is the Feast of Christ the King: there will be a retiring collection for the Diocesan Youth Service.

Everyone, but especially our children and young people, are invited to a Celebration Mass in honour of Christ the King (Youth Sunday) at St John of the Cross, Aylsham on 25th November at 9am. This will be a ‘light’, family friendly Mass with an opportunity (for those who wish) to take an active role in the celebration. For details see poster at the back of the church or contact Ginny on 07733 430270.

Senior Citizens’ Group (NW) meets on Monday, 19th November, starting at 11.30am when there will be the usual morning activities. In the afternoon a talk entitled ’Untapped Resource in Society’ will be

given by Paul Robinson & colleague.

In Remembrance – reminder. You will find in each church a Memorial Book or paper slips on which to write the names of your deceased loved ones; these will be placed on the altar throughout November.

The next Eucharistic Service at St Helen’s, Hoveton, will be at 7pm tomorrow, Monday 19th November.

The Bible Group meets on Friday 23rd November at 2.30pm in the committee room at North Walsham: new members always welcome.

St Helen’s 4th Wednesday Club meets on 28th November; coffee is served from 11.30am. There is a simple hot lunch at 12.30pm followed by a free raffle and social activities and games. We finish at 4.00pm with tea and cake.
This will be our last meeting this year. All senior citizens are welcome.

On Sunday 2nd December at 4pm, the whole parish are warmly invited to join the Aylsham community for “Come Lord Jesus” – words, music and prayer to mark the start of the beautiful season of Advent. All are welcome, irrespective of faith or none, so please come…and bring your neighbours and friends along too. Details: Katie on 01263 577784.

News from our twinned parish, St Francis Xavier, North Western Cambodia. Fr Greg’s latest email is on the twinning board at the back of the church. He asks us to pray for the students starting their new academic year. .As he is from Indonesia, he also asks for prayers for those who died in the plane crash recently.

3rd December – Feast of St Francis Xavier. Please remember our twinned parish and all who are missionaries, like Fr Greg in Cambodia. Send a Christmas card: address labels are available. Please see the board.

Reverse Advent Calendar for the Norwich and Cromer District Foodbanks. Simply donate one item every day for 25 days in November from the list in each church, either filling a box from home or placing them in boxes at the church. Please return by 1/2 December weekend.

Brief reminder: the Parish, apart from Aylsham, will NOT be taking part in the Samaritan’s Purse Shoe Box appeal this year.

We pray for all our sick parishioners, including Deacon Ron O’Toole, Mary Johnson, Joe Seely, and Maria Wilby.

We pray for all those whose anniversaries occur at this time including: Teresa McKillop, Charles Pinder, Barbara Cornish, Frederick Walker, Michael Foran, Megan (Maggie) Noone and Malcolm Craven.

May they rest in peace.
