Newsletter 20/11/22

18/11/2022 by Catherine Watkins

Dear Parishioners,

The most important thing in my life is my relationship with my Saviour and King, Jesus Christ.

Today, the last Sunday of the Liturgical Year, it is right and just that we honour Christ as our King.  For Christ is yesterday and today, the beginning and the end, Alpha and Omega; all time belongs to him and all ages. To Him be glory and power through every age and for ever.  To this we say a hearty AMEN!

RCIA (the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) for adults seeking to be welcomed as members of the Catholic Church will begin in December.  If you wish to find out more about this programme or how to register to take part, please contact our Parish Office for details.

Fr Peter

Today is the Feast of Christ the King, also celebrated as Youth Day.  There will be a retiring collection for the Diocesan Youth.

At St Helen, after today’s (Saturday) Mass, a Forum will be held.

Reminder: Bric-a-brac sale today – World Youth Day in Portugal ‘23.

Transform for Advent.  For young people aged 16-30 yrs, come and grow in your faith as we approach Christmas!  Held at Clare Priory on 9th-11th December, the weekend will include live music, powerful talks, passionate prayer and interactive workshops, as well as good food and free time!  Organised by the Diocesan Youth Service and Clare Priory. Bookings close Sunday 4th December. See

www.transformfestival.uk for more information.

First Holy Communion.  We will be starting our New First Holy Communion classes at the beginning of December.  Parents and children from the age of 7, wishing to register, please complete registration forms at the back of the church and hand them to Father Peter.

St Helen’s 4th Wednesday Club for senior citizens next takes place on 23rd November. We welcome our guests from 11.30am with tea, coffee & biscuits and an opportunity to chat and share our stories.  A simple hot lunch is served around 12.30pm followed by further social activity until 2pm.  We have now been running our successful friendship club for almost 14 years.  New members always welcome; please leave a message on 01692 582418 if coming for the first time.

Coming events in the lead-up to Christmas:

On Sunday 27th November at 4pm, the whole parish is warmly invited to join the Aylsham community for “Come Lord Jesus” – words, music, irrespective of faith or none, so please come….and bring your neighbours and friends along too.

St Helen’s Advent Carol Service will be held on Tuesday 13th December at 7.00pm.

The Sacred Heart is having a traditional Carol Service of Christmas readings and carols on Sunday 18th December at 3.00pm.

Items for the newsletter.  The parish office is now open on Tuesdays instead of Wednesdays; as a consequence, inserts for the newsletter need to reach the office by Tuesday.  Thank you.

Parish Directory.  If you have an entry in the new directory, please check for accuracy.  Any errors should be reported to the Parish Office a.s.a.p. Thank you.

Wroxham & Hoveton United Reform Church are holding a “Warm Space” event every Thursday from 10.30 until 3.00 starting on December 1st providing refreshments, games & fellowship for all who need a helping hand. Volunteers are especially needed to assist for the 12.00 until 3.00 period, and as part of the Churches Together initiative we have been asked to help.  If you feel that you could spare an hour or two, please contact their secretary, Lynne Howard on 01603 738835.

“Carols at Roys”, Wroxham.  Churches Together will be singing carols and invite you to join them on Thursday 8th December at 5pm.  They will be accompanied by Wroxham Praise Band.
