| FROM THE PARISH PRIEST This Sunday, we celebrate the Day for Life as we remember our calling, as baptised Catholics, to acknowledge and defend the right to life for all human beings — from conception to natural death. In 2024, between 300,000 and 305,000 abortions took place in the UK alone (that is 822 per day). When the Abortion Act was introduced in 1967, it was passed with many caveats and safeguards that have virtually all been dropped now and the restrictions have been greatly minimised. Last year, the government tried to pass the ‘assisted suicide’ bill- this too, has many caveats and safeguards attached. I believe that these safeguards are simply being used to get the bill passed and then, in future, they will also be dropped or lessened. Thankfully this bill failed to pass as it was deemed too unsafe (this should say it all and have ended it). However, they are going to raise this private member’s bill again this year and see if they can pass it and place it on our statute books. Is this really the direction that our country is heading? Can we truly be proud of a country that treats the most vulnerable in this way? Today we have a retiring collection in aid of the Day for Life Fund that supports charities in their work of cherishing the sacredness of life. Thank you for your generosity. | |
| Father Alan’s Induction Mass: At Sacred Heart on Thursday 2nd July at 6.00 pm. Bishop Peter will preside over this ceremony, and tea, coffee and other refreshments will be served in the hall afterwards. As this is getting close, to assist with catering arrangements, please sign the list at the back on the church, if you are hoping to be there. This Sunday, we mark the Day for Life under the theme ‘The Wonder of the Child in the Womb’, which also recognises the loss of children who died before birth, and the grief of their parents. The second collection will go towards the Day for Life Fund which distributes grants to organisations that respect life from conception until natural death. The bishop’s message and prayers can be found on www.dayforlife.org, where you can also donate online. | PPC AGM Change of Date: The hall will now be used as a polling station on July 16th, following the resignation of the Norfolk Police and Crime Commissioner. The AGM planned for this date has been re-arranged and will now take place on Thursday September 10th.
