Dear Friends,

Today’s Gospel reminds us that ministry in the Church is about service not domination . True Christian greatness consists in serving others, not in playing the master. This was a lesson that James and John had to learn from the Lord who washed the feet of his friends and gave his life in the ultimate act of service.

We are planning to begin classes for First Communion preparation next month. Please let us know if you have a child of First Communion age.

Next Sunday the Journey in Faith classes begin at 5 pm in the presbytery.

Father James

This Sunday is World Mission Day. A Retiring Collection will be taken for Missio (the Association for the Propagation of the Faith).
It is now time for Red Mission boxes to be handed in to your respective churches. Thank you.

The Rosary will be said during October. Volunteers are needed to lead at North Walsham. Leaflets on saying the Rosary are available.

Senior Citizens’ Group (NW) – will not meet on Monday 22nd October as this is half-term. The next meeting will be on 29th October when there will be the Autumn Craft Fair and we hope this will be well attended. Soup, roll and tea or coffee (£4) will also be served.

The next Eucharistic Service at St Helen’s, Hoveton, will be at 7pm on Monday 19th November.

Many thanks go to Katie Maidment for organising the Mass for the Cambodian Festival of the Ancestors (Bon Pchum Ben) on 12 October, which was a most moving occasion.

The next PPC Meeting is on Tuesday, 30th October and it will be held in the Parish Hall at 7.30pm

Two vacancies on the PPC, (Parish Pastoral Council) as Frances Green (Sacred Heart) and Rob Hardie (St John of the Cross) are both due to step down from representing their respective communities. We need your nominations for new members to take their places. This is important for our parish so PLEASE, take action! Consider who you feel would be a suitable and interested representative. Nomination forms are available in the two church porches. Our grateful thanks go to Rob (as Chairman) and Frances.

An Open Morning at St Francis of Assisi School is on Tuesday, 6th November from 9.30-10.30 am. If you are looking for a place for your child in Reception Class next year there is an information evening on Thursday, 15th November 15th at 7 pm.

Our parish now has three new Safeguarding reps, one for each of our communities: Gerry Mildenhall for Sacred Heart, Fran Ludden for St John of the Cross and Hilary Bolger for St Helen’s. They have all now completed their training.

Please note that the Parish, apart from Aylsham, will NOT be participating in the Samaritan’s Purse Shoe Box appeal this year. If you wish to make up a box you will need to take it to your nearest centre.

Items for the newsletter and the parish diary. If you have details on any forthcoming events taking place in our three communities or news from around the diocese that could be publicised in the weekly bulletin or parish diary, please post these items to the office email address or hand in on paper. The email address is: sacredheart@computer-assist.net

We pray for all our sick parishioners, including Mary Johnson, Joe Seely, Sheila Hall and Maria Wilby.

We pray for Daphne Mitchell and Sheila Watson who died recently; we remember their families and friends at this time. We pray also for all those whose anniversaries occur at this time including: John Perrin, (Margaret) Peggy Trevallion, Adrian (Ted) Frye, Frank Taylor, Irene Przybyla, Henry Honey, Joan Weston, Anthony (Tony) Crouch, and Peter Williamson.
May they rest in peace.
