Newsletter 25.03.18.

23/03/2018 by Antonia

Dear Friends,

Today we begin Holy Week, the high point of the Church’s year when we relive the central events of our faith: the passion, death and resurrection of Our Lord.  During the Triduum we come together as one parish community to take part in the beautiful liturgies and to celebrate them together.  The three services over Thursday, Friday and Saturday are really one liturgy spread over three days.  If you can try to take part in all three.

Meanwhile today we relive the entry of the Lord into Jerusalem and listen to the story of the Passion according to St Mark.  Our palms will be blessed and we join the people of Jerusalem in acclaiming the Lord as the Messiah sent by God.

With Holy Week and the Triduum just ahead the Services for the coming week, at the Sacred Heart Church are: Holy Thursday at 7pm; Good Friday at 3.00pm and the Easter Vigil & First Mass of Easter at 8.30pm – which really is the high point of the whole week. We should make every effort to join our community for these three great Liturgies.

The Senior Citizens Group (NW) will break for Holy Week and Easter resuming their meetings from Monday 9th April when there will be “in house activity”!

A reminder that the coach going to the Cathedral for the Chrism Mass on Tuesday at 7pm will be picking up from North Walsham at 5.35pm and Hoveton at 5.50pm: (it departs from the Cathedral at approx. 9.45pm). The coach cannot wait for late-comers so please be punctual. Cost £5: this will be collected on the coach.

On Holy Thursday at the Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7pm there will be the Mandatum (Washing of feet). May we please have the names, (if possible 4 from each community), of those who will have their feet washed and please make sure Father James has your name today (Hoveton – Saturday and Aylsham/NW – Sunday).

Taking place on Good Friday:
There will be a collection for the Holy Land Shrines.
Processions of Witness
will be taking place in Aylsham, Hoveton and North Walsham. In Aylsham we gather at Bure Valley Railway, Norwich Road at 9.30am; in North Walsham at Market Cross at 9.30am and in Hoveton at St John’s C of E (Hoveton) at 10.00am.
Also at 11am at North Walsham there is a Service for Children.
At St Helen’s there are Stations of the Cross in the evening.

Lent Sponsored Slim (NW). Three of our parishioners, Gerry Francis Teresa Butler & her husband Pete are doing a sponsored slim over Lent to help raise funds for World Youth Day 2019 – January in Panama. Should you wish to sponsor them, please see Gerry or Teresa. Thank you in anticipation.

Advance Notice: Annual Diocesan Mass, to celebrate Cambodian New Year, is hosted this year by Ely Parish of St Ethelreda on Friday 20th April.

We pray for our sick parishioners, including Margaret Wynes, Peter Walmesly, Mary Carr and Linda Dawson.

We pray for those whose anniversaries occur this week including: David Randall, Ivy Cafferky, Lawrence Carroll, Herbert Coates, Gertrude Carter-Leavy, Mamie Sweetman, Henry Newton, Tony Dickerson, Millicent Lee, Barbara Stephen and Ronald Wilders.
May they rest in peace.

Live Simply Assessment. As we are shortly due to be assessed by CAFOD to gain our Live Simply Award, we would like to ask you to complete a couple more questionnaires, one given out this weekend, a repeat of last March’s questionnaire, followed by a further slightly more in-depth questionnaire in early April. Thank you for your ongoing support trying to Live Simply. We are nearly there!
