NEWSLETTER 25.10.26

23/10/2026 by John

FROM THE PARISH PRIEST Remembering Our Dead:  In November, it is traditional that we, as Catholics, remember our loved ones who have died.  One way to do this is to bless the graves and places of rest of family members and friends.  We are fortunate in that we have memorial gardens in all three of our churches – it is correct Catholic teaching that we should never sprinkle ashes, nor turn them into jewellery, split them or leave the ‘lying around’.  Ashes and mortal remains should be buried in a cemetery, memorial garden or columbarium.  I will bless the individual graves of loved ones in all three of our memorial gardens on the following dates: 01 November (Sunday) – after the 11:00 Mass North Walsham 04 November (Wednesday) – after the 09:30 Mass Hoveton  06 November (Friday) – after the 09:30 Mass Extraordinary Ministers’ Training and Info Day:  There will be a training day on Saturday 14 November for all extraordinary ministers (Communion Ministers)  of the Eucharist.  The day will be held at Sacred Heart, begin at 10:30 for coffee and registration. First session at 10:45, Adoration and Benediction at 12:00 followed by lunch – with the final session at 1:30 pm to finish at approximately 2:30pm.  All those attending will then be commissioned as ministers later this year.  Please bring a packed lunch – tea and coffee will be provided.  I look forward to a prayerful and enjoyable day. Parish Fish, Chips and Quiz:  Our social committee has gone to a lot of effort to arrange an evening of fun and food on Saturday the 31st of October at 6:30pm.  Please do consider coming to this event to be part of your parish community; the evening promises to be a fun evening with great company and delicious food.   Please keep in your prayers: Please pray for the repose of the soul of Tony Dady, a long-time member of our community at Sacred Heart. May he rest in the Peace of Christ and rise with him in Glory. We extend our deepest sympathy to his family, with the assurance that we will keep them all in our prayers.
Faithful Flames Christmas Party:  This will be held on Saturday 19th December, 2pm-5pm. in the Parish Hall.   Please see the letter at the back of the church for the QR Code to connect you to the form to sign by 22nd November.
Parish Christmas Fayre on Saturday 28th  November:  There have been several suggestions and  offers of help to run stalls and games on the day. More ideas would be welcome as the more we can do on the day the more it will be enjoyed by all. Please speak to a member of the social committee if you would be able to help.
Quiz & Chips at Sacred Heart Hall : This will be held October 31st at 6.30 pm. You will be able to place your orders for fish and chips to be delivered in the break. The cost of this is £7.50 and entry will be £2.50.  Please sign up if you are hoping to be there on the sign- up sheet at the back.  Donations of raffle prizes will be appreciated.
Welcomers and Counters at Sacred Heart:  We are very short of welcomers at Sacred Heart to meet and greet people before Sunday Mass.  All that is required is to hand out the newsletter  and be generally welcoming! We would also be grateful for offers to count collections at the end of Mass. Please ask for details   Young Readers: A few young people at Sacred Heart have expressed an interest in reading at Mass. We will start this programme over the next few weeks at Sunday Mass. There will be a meeting after Mass on October 25th for anyone in year 6 upwards who would like to be considered.
