| FROM THE PARISH PRIEST Dedication of the Cathedral: Every year, on the26th June, as a diocese we celebrate the dedication of our Cathedral. This year we celebrate the 50th anniversary of our diocese and of the dedication of the building as a cathedral. St John the Baptist had been a parish church up until 1976 when Pope Paul V1 created a new diocese called ‘East Anglia’ when he separated us from Northampton diocese. The first bishop of East Anglia, Bishop Alan Clarke, took possession of his cathedral and then dedicated the building as a cathedral (rather than a parish church). Nearly all Catholic Cathedrals are younger than 150 years because the restoration of the Catholic hierarchy and a licence to celebrate public Catholic worship was granted around the year 1850 following the Protestant reformation. It is only after this date that we were able legally to build new churches and cathedrals. Bishop Peter celebrated a special Jubilee Mass on Friday with the priests of the diocese as well as ecclesiastical and civil guests- a wonderful milestone in our history. May the Lord continue to bless this diocese for another 50 years and beyond- please pray for Deacons Antony Reilly and Peter Ho as they prepare for ordination to the Sacred Priesthood on July 4th in the Cathedral. | |
| Father Alan’s Induction Mass: At Sacred Heart on Thursday 2nd July at 6.00 pm. Bishop Peter will preside over this ceremony, and we look forward to welcoming as many parishioners as possible to this joyful occasion. Tea, coffee and other refreshments will be served in the hall afterwards. PPC AGM Change of Date: The hall will now be used as a polling station on July 16th, following the resignation of the Norfolk Police and Crime Commissioner. The AGM planned for this date has been re-arranged and will take place on Thursday 10th September. | Please note: While our phone and internet difficulties persist, the parish office may be contacted at any time via the Parish Hall email or telephone.
