22nd Week in Ordinary Time
30th August – 5th September
In last Sunday’s Gospel Peter acknowledges Jesus as the Christ, the Son of the living God. But when Jesus now reveals himself as the Suffering Servant of Isaiah who will redeem his people by his passion, death and resurrection, Peter cannot accept it. From a rock he becomes an obstacle. He is reminded that he is a disciple (‘get behind me’) who must not come between Jesus and the fulfillment of his mission. He must learn to accept the reality and the necessity of the Cross.
Don’t forget that the Sunday obligation has been suspended. If you wish to attend a Sunday Mass you need to book a place with the co-ordinator for each church: John Bolger at Sacred Heart – 01692 581516 (bolger@waitrose.com); Fran Ludden – 07849 602227 (fran.ludden@btinternet.com); Richard McGreevy at St Helen’s – 01603 738255 (richardmcgreevy@supanet.com)
If you book, then change your mind, please tell the Coordinator. Otherwise, people may be turned away from church needlessly, if all the places have been booked.
Although the confessionals cannot be used at present I am available for Confession at any time – outdoors if weather permits or inside the church in a quiet corner.
The homily from Deacon Ron’s Requiem Mass is available to read here.
