Dear Parishioners,
We begin the month of November celebrating the Solemnity of All Saints; the triumphant Church. All baptised Christians who have died and are now with God in glory are considered saints. All Saints Day is intended to honour the memory of countless unknown and uncanonised saints who have no feast days. We thank God for giving ordinary men and women a share in His holiness and Heavenly glory as a reward for their Faith. If they became saints then why not I?
On 2nd November, we commemorate All the Faithful Departed, more commonly known as All Souls Day. The Catechism of the Catholic Church, citing Pope St Gregory the great, explains: “All who die in God’s grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified, are indeed assured of their eternal salvation; but after death they undergo purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven.” Our prayers and Mass offerings will release many suffering souls from purgatory to Heaven.
