Newsletter 31/07/22

Dear Friends,

Where do we look for security? Today’s first reading tells us that it is not in ourselves or in our own resources. The Gospel reading tells us that it is not found in wealth (‘the good harvest’). Of course we need a roof over our heads and food on the table. But there is a deeper kind of security: that of the soul. St Paul gives the answer: our lives must be focused on the Lord. ‘there is only Christ: he is everything and he is in everything’. The reality is that if we look for security in anything less than the living God we risk falling into idolatry.

It was good to see so many parishioners from all three communities come together in the newly-decorated parish hall for the best parish AGM ever! (In my time, at least).

My family will be making their annual visit to North Walsham this weekend. Instead of a garden party you are welcome to join us for an informal cuppa or a refreshing glass between 5 & 7 pm Saturday, Sunday or Monday.

Father James

Faithful Flames Children’s Group will not be held on both Sunday 31st July (today) and Sunday 7th August; however, it will return as normal on 14th August. On that Sunday, after morning Mass, I would like to invite you all to some fun in the sun. Just bring a picnic and join in with games, sports activities and a bit of water play too.  There will also be face paint available.  All families are welcome.  I look forward to spending this ‘fun in the sun’ afternoon with you.  Please look out for the poster in the church porch to remind you. It would be great to see you!  Kerry – 0750 4048352

St Helen’s August Coffee Morning will take place after Mass on Wednesday 6th from 10.20-11.30am.  Please come and join us for refreshments including home-made bakes for just £2.00.  You are all most welcome.  Proceeds go to local charities.

Holy Hour & Eucharistic Adoration is on Thursdays at St Helen’s at 3pm – a time for quiet reflection, meditation and contemplation.

The Catholic Charismatic Renewal in East Anglia invite you to a Day of Prayer & Renewal in the Holy Spirit on Saturday 20th August, 10.30am – 4.30pm at Clare Priory, Ashen Road, Clare, CO10 8NX.  It is led by Fr Stefan Park OSA and Fr Gladson Dabre OSA, a day of praise & worship, Holy Mass, reconciliation, healing & teaching. The theme: Do you believe that I am able to do this? Tea/coffee provided: bring a packed lunch. For more information ring Clare Fox on 07906 523496.

New Dawn in the Church – come and experience the life-changing power of the Holy Spirit!  From 1st – 5th August 2022 at Walsingham. Please see poster for details.

Inviting all young people, aged 16-30, to the Transform Festival, 9th-11th September. Come and experience your faith in a new, dynamic way. Held at Clare Priory, the Festival will include live music, powerful talks, passionate prayer and interactive workshops, as well as good food and free time. Organised by the Diocesan Youth Service and Clare Priory.  See

www.transformfestival.uk  for more information.

Still urgently needed, rented accommodation – for care workers, in the North Walsham area who have joined our church community: looking for flats, houses. Please phone the parish office on 01692 403258 or email rcnwalsham@gmail.com

We pray for our sick parishioners: Matt Butler, Frances Palman, Mary Bell, Michael and Monica Hawley, Mary Carr, Paul Watson, Cyril Shenton,  Patricia Newton, Pat Durrant and Celia Cooper.

We pray for those whose anniversaries occur this week: Michael Conroy, Jennifer Copeman, Elizabeth Hebden, Richard Furlong, Kathleen Harkin, Norah Nyland, June Ennals, Ronald Perkins, Jean Eastaugh, Stephen Britchford, Christopher Tuohy and Jeanette Shaw. May they rest in peace.    .
